Hear from RN VOICE members why our mission is so important and why managing peripheral venous access pain is a key patient goal.

The RN VOICE Steering Committee has provided us with their expertise and experience regarding the management of needlestick pain. The views that have been shared on this web site are their own and do not necessarily reflect the views of their institutions.

Painful needlesticks can produce negative perceptions of the entire hospital experience and color future feelings about medical care.

RN VOICE is working to transform the venous access experience for pediatric patients, their families, and their health care providers through education, advocacy, and collaboration.

The need is real. Despite significant advances in the overall management of procedural pediatric pain, pain from venous access procedures is largely under treated.41,42 The prospect of venipuncture results in a great deal of anticipatory distress and procedure-related distress in children.43 Children and parents rate needlesticks as the second most common cause of the 'worst pain' experienced during hospitalization44 and the most frequent painful event.45
